Couples evolve over time, which means that nowadays we can say there are different types of couples. To help you see which type of couple best fits your personality, we will talk about the main types and provide a description of each.

Social couple

This type of relationship refers to the love shared between two people. This love is shown through intimacy and commitment. However, in this kind of relationship, there is no passion. It is usually present in couples who have been together for a long time. They remain a couple, but the initial passion is gone, so they are no longer interested in intimate encounters.

When we talk about a social couple, we are really referring to a couple that has fallen into a routine, which fundamentally breaks passion. Still, they love each other and feel committed to the other person.

Multiple couple

These are couples who choose to have multiple dating partners. Typically, one partner is faithful to the other, while the other has several relationships at the same time. The person involved with multiple partners has no ties or commitments to any of them. They just go with the flow and want to enjoy all these open relationships.

It’s a way to experiment without making any kind of commitment to a particular person. All relationships are open. Of course, each partner knows what kind of relationship they have, so no one should demand any commitment because no one is being deceived.

Romantic couples

These can be considered complete couples who enjoy passion, love, and intimacy. However, romantic couples usually lack the element of commitment.

In a way, they can be described as temporary loves, like a summer romance. It is truly a passionate relationship but with an expiration date, as neither partner is willing to make any kind of commitment. Spontaneity is one of the strong points of this type of relationship.

Hybrid couples

This type of couple is relatively new and sometimes referred to as postmodern couples. Today, it is becoming clear that more and more young people are opting for this type of relationship.

Hybrid couples are a mix. That is, one partner chooses a relationship with only one person, meaning monogamy. Meanwhile, the other wants to have several open relationships at the same time. For a couple to be hybrid, it is important that both partners agree. If one partner does not accept it, then it can be concluded that they are not truly a couple.

According to recent studies, in many heterosexual relationships, the woman often chooses monogamy. But there are also couples where the opposite happens. For many people, this type of relationship is unusual, but if both partners agree, there should be no problem. Although it is true that jealousy can sometimes surface over time.

Swinger couple

This can be considered another type of modern couple. In this case, one partner accepts that the other partner has sexual relations with a third person. The couple is united, but among their agreements, there is no rule that requires total fidelity between the partners. They love each other, but they can have sex with other people.

Nowadays, it is known that there are swinger couples who gather in specific places to meet other people and thus have sexual relations more easily. It is estimated to be a growing business, thanks to the increasing number of swinger couples. Of course, to enjoy this type of relationship, both partners must have a liberal mindset. Like in other relationships, if one of the two partners does not agree, then it cannot be said that the couple is truly swingers.

Polyamory

These are couples who can and approve of their partners having relationships with other people. In this case, it is said that they love all their partners, whereas in swinger relationships this aspect is not included.

When a person embraces polyamory, they love and are committed to all the people they form a relationship with. To get an idea, these people clearly understand that love is very broad. It is possible to love many people at the same time; you don’t have to stick to just one person. For this reason, they relate to several partners simultaneously, leaving aside monogamy.

Flexisexual couple

These are couples who want to explore their sexuality to the fullest. In this case, the partners understand that they can have relationships with other people, regardless of gender. Usually, this refers to open relationships, so the term long-term relationship is not present in this variety.

Fatuous couple

This is a type of couple in which intimacy is not consolidated. These couples have a high degree of passion and commitment but do not develop intimacy.

Sometimes, outsiders may doubt if they are really a couple because they are very close, but they never reach the level of intimacy.

Long-distance couple

Thanks to new technologies, this type of couple has grown significantly. These are couples who love each other but cannot be in physical contact because they live far apart. Sometimes, these couples have never seen each other physically.

When a couple is long-distance, there are only two options: they take the step to be together, or over time the relationship is doomed to fail. Love needs closeness and contact; it cannot last too long through new technologies.
